Description
We will attempt a survey of some of the most important trends in modern critical theory, for example writing (ecriture), psychoanalysis, ideology, literacy, sexualities, machines.
Our basic text will be the Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism. This has just appeared in a second edition, but if you already own the first edition you can manage with that for most of our readings. Other materials will be made available in a reader to be purchased at the Davis Copy Shop (3rd and A)
Grading
A paper(c. 20pp) due at the end of the quarter; attendance at all classes; responsibility for introducing one class during the quarter.
